Fales signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins on Thursday, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Dolphins allowed Fales, who was a restricted free agent, to test the open market this week, but it appears the quarterback was unable to find an attractive offer elsewhere. With Jay Cutler's days in Miami over, Fales will move forward as the No. 2 signal caller behind Ryan Tannehill -- though it's possible the team adds to its quarterback room in the upcoming draft.

Fales completed 29 of 42 passes for 265 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Bills. He also rushed four times for eight yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Despite a late-game interception that clinched the win, and ultimately, a playoff spot for the Bills, Fales acquitted himself very well in his first NFL start. The second-year pro was able to lead scoring drives of 11, 10 and 10 plays in the second half after Buffalo had jumped out to a 19-3 lead. He closed out the game with a pair of possessions that culminated in a one-yard touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry and a one-yard score on a quarterback sneak, leaving Miami with a chance to put together…read more

Fales may get some playing time Sunday against the Bills, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: In anticipation of an appearance Sunday, head coach Adam Gase handed Fales some first-team practice reps this week. However, game flow will determine whether Fales actually sees the field. Whether or not he directs the offense before season's end, Gase's thought process seems to indicate the Dolphins are ready to move on from Jay Cutler and potentially Matt Moore (foot) behind Ryan Tannehill, who has progressed quite well in his recovery from reconstructive knee surgery in August.

Fales (thumb) is active for Sunday's tilt against Minnesota, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Fales was limited at practice this week due to his thumb injury but it isn't thought to be very serious. He likely won't see any action Sunday unless starting quarterback Matt Barkley is forced out due to injury.

Fales (thumb) is questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Vikings.
Analysis: Fales was limited in practice throughout the week and will likely be active despite the injury. He'll serve as the backup quarterback to Matt Barkley on Sunday.

Fales (thumb) is active Saturday against Washington.
Analysis: Despite being a late addition to the injury report that limited him in practice Thursday and Friday, Fales will suit up and be available to provide relief for starter Matt Barkley in case of an emergency

The Bears are signing Fales off the Ravens' practice squad, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: The Bears are in need of quarterbacks with Jay Cutler (shoulder) set to miss at least several games, so they decided to bring back Fales, who spent training camp and the last two seasons in Chicago. He will assume the backup duties behind Matt Barkley in Cutler's absence, and if he is summoned off the bench at any point the rest of the way, his familiarity with the team should be a benefit in some way.

Fales completed 4-of-10 passes for 69 yards Thursday against the Browns.
Analysis: With Connor Shaw (leg) out for the season, Fales will function as the Bears third-string quarterback. Should the team suffer injuries to their top-two quarterbacks, it's entirely possible that the team would be off with a street free agent.

Fales was promoted from the Bears' practice squad to the active roster Monday, NFL Network's James Palmer reports.
Analysis: Fales was promoted to the active roster earlier this season when Jay Cutler was injured. This time around, Fales' activation is the result of his team's decision to move on from backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen. Though highly unproven, Fales probably can't be any worse than his former teammate.
