Undecided on future
Gore (lung contusion) said Tuesday that he hasn't determined whether he wants to return to the NFL for a 17th season, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports. "I still have fun playing the game of football, but I haven't made a decision yet," Gore said of his future.
Analysis: Before sitting out the Jets' Week 17 loss to the Patriots with a bruised lung, Gore had served as the team's primary running back throughout the season, compiling 653 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to go with 16 receptions for 89 yards. The 37-year-old has long been valued by teams as a mentor for younger players in the locker room, but his on-field productivity has been on the decline for quite some time. He's now averaged fewer than four yards per carry in five of the past six years,…read more

Moved to IR
The Jets placed Gore (lung) on injured reserve Wednesday, Andy Vasquez of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Gore suffered a lung contusion in last week's win over the Browns and had already been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Patriots. Though Gore has offered no indication that he intends to retire after this season, it's fair to wonder if the 37-year-old running back's time in the NFL is over. Prior to sustaining his injury last week, Gore raised his season rushing yardage total to exactly 653, allowing him to reach 16,000 yards for his career. Only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter…read more

Out for season finale
Gore is dealing with a lung contusion and has been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Patriots, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Gore left this past Sunday's 23-16 win over the Browns early, but not before becoming the third player to reach 16,000 rushing yards in his career. The 37-year-old running back will miss a game for just the third time in the past 10 seasons. Gore will be an unrestricted free agent in March, and it's unclear if he'll return for his 17th NFL season.

Injured after hitting milestone
Gore suffered a chest injury in the second half of Sunday's 23-16 win over the Browns, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports. He rushed 14 times for 48 yards and caught his only target for five yards prior to sustaining the injury.
Analysis: Gore came in needing 48 rushing yards to become the third player to reach 16,000, and he got exactly enough to hit the milestone before exiting with his injury. If the veteran running back is unable to heal up in time for next week's season finale against the Patriots, La'Mical Perine and Ty Johnson would be in line for additional touches in New York's backfield.

Finds end zone in upset win
Gore carried the ball 23 times for 59 yards and a touchdown and caught his only target for six yards in Sunday's 23-20 upset of the Rams.
Analysis: The veteran back saw his largest workload of the season on an afternoon when the Jets led for most of the game. While the extra touches didn't turn into much yardage, Gore did punch in a one-yard score in the third quarter for his second TD of the year. Ty Johnson saw only nine touches, though he also found the end zone, and Gore still appears to be coach Adam Gase's preferred early-down and short-yardage option heading into a Week 16 home tilt against the Browns.

Held in check Sunday
Gore carried the ball eight times for 23 yards and caught his only target for eight yards in Sunday's 40-3 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: The veteran's 31 scrimmage yards actually led the Jets backfield, although Josh Adams (eight touches for 30 scrimmage yards) and Ty Johnson (eight carries for 16 rushing yards) saw comparable workloads. Gore is likely headed for another poor performance in Week 15's road clash with the Rams, especially if he remains stuck in a committee.

Listed as active Sunday
Gore (concussion) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Gore is available Sunday and in line to face a Seattle defense that overall this season has been better at stopping the run than the pass. Additionally, in a game where the Seahawks are heavily favored, the veteran back could lose some touches to Ty Johnson, who logged 104 rushing yards and a TD on 22 carries after taking over for Gore in last Sunday's loss to the Raiders.

Optimism regarding Week 14 status
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network indicates that "there is optimism" that Gore (concussion) will play Sunday against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Rapoport adds that Gore's availability for the contest depends on the running back clearing a final hurdle in the concussion protocol Sunday morning. Either way, Gore's Week 14 status will be confirmed once the Jets' inactives are posted in advance of the team's 4:05 ET kickoff. If Gore ultimately ends up out or limited at all, Ty Johnson would be in line for added backfield touches versus Seattle.

Questionable despite full practice
Gore (concussion/not injury related) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks after practicing fully Friday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Ty Johnson filled in admirably after Gore got hurt early in last week's loss to the Raiders, topping 100 yards with a touchdown. Those who picked up Johnson in hopes of a repeat performance in a leading role may instead end up with part of a timeshare with Gore, who practiced fully Friday after missing Thursday's session for reasons that apparently weren't related to the concussion. Still, Gore will need to clear the protocol for head injuries in order to do so Sunday.

Sits out practice Thursday
Gore was a non-participant at practice Thursday due to a listed combination of concussion/not injury-related, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gore practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, and the non-injury designation attached to Thursday's DNP suggests that the veteran running back's absence was maintenance-related, rather than indicative of a concussion setback. A return to the field Friday, in any capacity, would confirm that notion. Per Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record, coach Adam Gase previously noted that he thinks there's a good chance Gore can play Sunday against Seattle. If not, however, Ty Johnson would be in line for…read more

Won't practice Thursday
Gore (concussion) won't practice Thursday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gore logged a limited practice Wednesday, but the running back's downgrade in participation Thursday isn't necessarily indicative of a setback, given that lately he's been receiving routine rest days on Thursday. How he's listed on the Jets' upcoming injury report should add some context to Gore's latest absence.

Set for limited practice
Gore (concussion) is slated to practice in a limited fashion Wednesday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: While Gore remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, coach Adam Gase thinks that there's a good chance the veteran running back can gain clearance ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. If Gore does end up suiting up this weekend, he could be in store for less playing time than usual after Ty Johnson shined in the Jets' Week 13 loss to the Raiders following Gore's early exit. Johnson finished the contest with 104 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries to go with two receptions for 13 yards.

Exits Sunday's game

Being examined for concussion
Gore is under evaluation for a concussion during Sunday's game versus the Raiders, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Gore was described as "wobbly" at the end of a two-yard run on the second play of the game, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. After visits to the sideline tent and locker room, Gore may soon enter the concussion protocol, which would force him from the contest for good. In Gore's stead, Ty Johnson was the first running back to replace him.

Gore (undisclosed) went to the locker room during Sunday's game against the Raiders, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Gets 21 touches in latest loss
Gore rushed 18 times for 74 yards and caught all three of his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: Gore returned to lead back duties with La'Mical Perine (ankle) out, but the entire Jets offense struggled to get going, and Gore didn't help by getting stuffed on a pivotal 4th-and-1 run deep in Dolphins territory with the Jets trailing 13-3 in the third quarter. Part of RB rotation
Coach Adam Gase said Friday that the Jets will have a running back rotation of Gore, Ty Johnson and Josh Adams on Sunday against the Dolphins, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Gore has received double-digit carries eight times in 10 contests this season en route to averaging 13.3 touches and 50.5 yards from scrimmage per game. He's likely in line for a similar workload with La'Mical Perine (ankle) on injured reserve for at least the next three games, but Gase is poised to use Johnson and Adams out of the backfield as well. However, the duo has just 16 combined touches in 2020, so Gore should remain the lead back.

Larger workload could await
Gore appears set to serve as the Jets' clear No. 1 running back for at least the next three games following the placement of La'Mical Perine (ankle) on injured reserve earlier this week, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gore had been splitting time with Perine before the rookie injured his ankle Week 11 against the Chargers, but the veteran could now realistically find himself in position to handle 15-plus touches per game in the absence of Perine. Ty Johnson is a candidate to complement Gore in a change-of-pace role, while Josh Adams has been signed to the active roster as added depth.

Ends touchdown drought
Gore carried 15 times for 61 yards and a touchdown while catching both his targets for 13 yards during Sunday's 34-28 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Gore led the team in carries by seven and averaged a respectable 4.1 yards per tote against a solid defensive unit. He scored a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter to end a touchdown drought that dated back to Week 3 of last season. The veteran now has double-digit carries in seven of his last eight games, but his fantasy value has been marginal due to weak yardage output and the aforementioned lack of touchdowns. Garners 14 touches
Gore rushed 12 times for 46 yards and caught both of his targets for 13 yards in Monday night's 30-27 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Gore's touch tally trumped fellow tailback La'Mical Perine's eight, as did his yardage total compared to the rookie's 38 combined. Nonetheless, it was another solid but unspectacular outing for the veteran, who still hasn't scored this season. The 37-year-old will now embark on a welcomed bye week before turning his attention to a matchup against the Chargers in Week 11.

Doesn't practice Friday
Gore (hand/non-injury) didn't practice Friday.
Analysis: While it's unclear what the non-injury portion of his injury designation is connected to, Gore's participation, or lack thereof, Saturday will be worth monitoring considering he went from practicing fully Thursday to missing practice entirely Friday. Assuming he gets back on the practice field Saturday, Gore would put himself in good position to suit up Monday against the Patriots after playing through his hand injury last week.

Splits with Perine in latest loss
Gore (hand) rushed 10 times for 30 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 35-9 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Gore split work with rookie La'Mical Perine, who turned eight carries and two catches into 33 scrimmage yards. While Perine at least has some long-term appeal, Gore's lack of involvement as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, zero touchdowns and subpar average of 3.5 yards per carry make him a non-factor outside of much deeper fantasy formats. Gore has rushed for exactly 30 yards three times this season and between 24 and 63 yards in each of New York's eight games.

Suiting up vs. Chiefs
Gore (hand) is active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Gore will get the green light to play despite having not been a full practice participant at any point this week. While Gore has led the New York backfield in snaps and carries this season, he was out-touched by rookie Lamical Perine for the first time during the campaign in last week's loss to the Bills. Expect the 0-7 Jets to continue prioritizing Perine ahead of the 37-year-old Gore during the second half of the season.

Questionable with hand injury
Gore (hand) is listed as questionable on the final injury report before Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Gore will likely split carries with rookie La'Mical Perine if he suits up, but Perine would gain some against-the-grain fantasy appeal if Gore can't go. Kansas CIty has struggled against the run, and the Jets will likely have no choice but to stick with the running game regardless of game script given how inept the team's passing attack has looked, especially with leading receiver Jamison Crowder (groin) doubtful to suit up for this one.

Remains on injury report
Gore, who was limited by a hand injury Wednesday, didn't practice Thursday, with the Jets classifying his absence as non-injury related.
Analysis: We'll have to wait until Friday to see if the Gore's hand issue is minor enough for him to be removed from the team's Week 8 injury report altogether, or if he approaches Sunday's game against the Chiefs with a questionable tag. Assuming he suits up this weekend, the veteran back would be in line to share backfield touches with La'Mical Perine.

Dealing with hand injury
Gore was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a hand injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gore isn't believed to be dealing with a fracture to the hand or anything that would compromise his ability to carry the football securely, so as long as he continues practicing in some capacity this week, he should be ready to play Sunday against the Chiefs. Even rushing split with Perine
Gore rushed 11 times for 60 yards in Sunday's 18-10 loss to Buffalo. He wasn't targeted in the passing game.
Analysis: Coach Adam Gase promised to get rookie La'Mical Perine more involved, and that's exactly what he did, as Perine finished with 11 carries and two catches on three targets. Gore outproduced Perine 60-39 on the ground, but it was the rookie who scored New York's only touchdown with a nice dive to the pylon from five yards out. Manages 70 scrimmage yards in loss
Gore carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards and caught all four of his targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: While the numbers were modest, it was Gore's most productive game of the season so far in terms of scrimmage yards. His role on the ground didn't seem to change with Le'Veon Bell no longer around, but Gore did see season highs in targets and receptions. The veteran RB should again head the Jets' backfield in Week 7 against the Bills.

Increased duties on tap sans Bell
Gore could handle more touches following news that the Jets released Le'Veon Bell on Tuesday.
Analysis: We already got a taste of how the Jets' backfield shapes up without Bell, as the running back missed three games this season with a hamstring injury. During that stretch, Gore averaged 17 touches per game. The 37-year-old didn't turn it into much production, recording no touchdowns and an average of 53.7 yards from scrimmage per game. However, Gore's consistent volume should make him a decent fantasy stash that can be used in a pinch. Rookie La'Mical Perine could see a bump in usage as well.

Quiet in Bell's return
Gore rushed nine times for 30 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 30-10 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: As expected, Gore ceded the majority of backfield work to Le'Veon Bell in Bell's return from a hamstring injury. Bell doubled Gore's rushing yardage total on 13 carries and was the only Jets running back to have a pass thrown his way. Considering Gore wasn't doing much as the lead back with Bell sidelined, he's unlikely to pick it up now that Bell's back.

Role to shrink if Bell's ready
Gore is expected to return to a backup role for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, as Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday and looks on track to be activated later this week, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.
Analysis: Gore averaged 17 touches per game over the past three weeks while serving as the Jets' lead option at running back, but the former will likely see his carries and targets take a big hit with Bell expected to rejoin the mix. Even with the uptick in volume, Gore wasn't able to take advantage, as he failed to score a touchdown in any of the three games Bell missed while averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.

Serves as lead back again
Gore rushed 13 times for 30 yards and brought in one of two targets for six yards in the Jets' 37-28 loss to the Broncos on Thursday.
Analysis: The ageless Gore once again carried the bulk of the workload for the Jets' ground attack, but as was the case in the last two games, he found running room at a premium. Gore averaged just 2.3 yards per rush Thursday, as New York's offensive line seemed unable to run block or pass protect. Gore carried the ball 15 times for 57 yards and caught his only target for five yards in Sunday's 36-7 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: The 37-year-old got a surprisingly solid workload considering how quickly the Jets fell behind in the game, but Gore wasn't able to do much with his touches. Gore rushed 21 times for 63 yards and failed to bring in either of his two targets in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Gore took on a workhorse role with Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) out, but he averaged a meager 3.0 yards per carry. Analysis: Gore is locked in atop the New York's depth chart following Le'Veon Bell's (hamstring) move to injured reserve Tuesday. Analysis: Gore took on a larger role in the second half after Le'Veon Bell left the game with a hamstring injury, though there weren't many rushing opportunities to go around with the Jets trying to dig out of a 21-0 hole. Getting chance with Jets
Gore agreed Tuesday with the Jets on a one-year contract, the running back's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Analysis: Though Gore was most interested in reuniting with his hometown Dolphins this offseason to potentially cap off his career, he'll instead latch on with one of Miami's AFC East rivals for his 16th NFL season. The soon-to-be 37-year-old's familiarity with Jets coach Adam Gase from their time together with the Dolphins during the 2018 season likely factored heavily into Gore's decision to join New York. Out of Buffalo's plans?
Gore, currently an unrestricted free agent, seemingly had his chances of returning to the Bills significantly reduced when the team selected Utah's Zack Moss in the third round this weekend.
Analysis: Devin Singletary and Moss now line up as the team's 1-2 punch for the foreseeable future, while Gore is far too long in the tooth to serve as a pass-catching, change-of-pace option. That role is expected to go to T.J. Yeldon, with Taiwan Jones and Christian Wade also in the fold. Plans to play in 2020
Gore intends to continue his career through at least the 2020 season, Andrew Groover of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Gore, an impending unrestricted free agent, will kick off his 16th NFL season in 2020. Entering his age-37 campaign, Gore won't have any teams asking him to serve as the primary option out of the backfield, but he could offer some utility as part of a committee in addition to the positive presence he provides in the locker room. Though his usage has dropped off in recent years, Gore has still managed to put together back-to-back seasons with at least 150 carries. He expressed interest in…read more

Interested in Miami reunion
Gore said he would love to play for the Dolphins in 2020, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Gore grew up in South Florida, attended the University of Miami, and played for the Dolphins in 2018. Interest in a reunion isn't necessarily mutual, considering he produced a career-worst 3.6 yards per carry in 2019 for Buffalo. The average partially was dragged down by Gore's short-yardage role, though his struggles in that area -- two touchdowns on 11 carries inside the five-yard line -- could inspire the Bills to pursue an upgrade this offseason. Gore can become an unrestricted free agent…read more

Noncommittal about future
Gore hasn't made a decision about whether to continue his NFL career in 2020, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
Analysis: On a Week 12 run against the Broncos, Gore passed Barry Sanders to become the league's third-leading rusher of all time. Having said that, Gore took a back seat to rookie Devin Singletary down the stretch and averaged less than three yards per carry in eight of his final 10 appearances (including playoffs). Gore again is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so if he opts to return and finds another home, the 36-year-old could be playing with his fourth team in as many campaigns.

Adds more yards to historic career
Gore rushed six times for 26 yards and caught three of four targets for another 16 yards in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Gore will serve as the No. 2 running back behind Devin Singletary when the Bills travel to Houston for the wild-card round. The 36-year-old running back finishes what could be the final regular season of his outstanding career with 599 yards and two touchdowns on 166 carries and 100 receiving yards on 13 catches. If Gore retires after this season, he'll finish third on the league's all-time rushing list behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

Not among inactives
Gore is not among the inactives for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Jets, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: The Bills are sitting most of their key veterans in a meaningless finale, including No. 1 back Devin Singletary, so there's a chance Gore sees more carries than he's been getting since the former took over his job. That said, it's still a risky proposition, given Buffalo is running a shell of its normal offense, and the team may also use what's essentially a practice game to see what it has in T.J. Yeldon and Senorise Perry.

Struggles despite increased touches
Gore rushed 10 times for 15 yards in Sundays 17-10 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Gore trailed starter Devin Singletary (21 carries) by a decent margin yet again, but the 10 carries were the highest total the veteran has received since Week 12. Still, it has become clear that Gore is the backup in this offense, giving him a low fantasy ceiling as the season comes to a close. A rough matchup against a staunch Patriots defense Saturday doesn't help his case.

Cleared to play
Gore (illness) doesn't carry a Week 15 injury designation after practicing fully Friday.
Analysis: Gore sat out Thursday's practice, but he'll be good to go Sunday against the Steelers. That said, considering that he's taken a back seat to fellow running back Devin Singletary over the last couple of weeks, the veteran's fantasy utility is limited at this stage.

Under the weather
Gore (illness) sat out Thursday's practice, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: As long as the veteran back is able to practice in some capacity Friday, he should be okay for Sunday's game against the Steelers. Gore has taken a back seat to fellow running back Devin Singletary of late, which limits his fantasy utility, in any case.

Production crawling to a halt
Gore rushed four times for six yards and was not targeted in the passing game during Sunday's loss to Baltimore.
Analysis: Gore played just 19 percent of the offensive snaps compared to 81 percent for rookie Devin Singletary, who went over 100 scrimmage yards for the third straight game and is starting to look just as important to the offense as Josh Allen and John Brown. With just two or three weeks left in the fantasy season, you should not be holding onto Gore if you didn't listen the first few times. He's had a wonderful career and still holds value to the Bills as a leader that can spell Singletary on…read more

Minor role in major win
Gore carried the ball nine times for just 11 yards and caught his only target for 14 yards during Thursday's win in Dallas.
Analysis: Gore once again took a back seat to impressive rookie Devin Singletary, who topped 100 scrimmage yards for the second straight week. Unless something happens to Singletary, Gore is now firmly supplanted in the role of mentor and occasional change-of-pace carrier.

Tops Barry Sanders on all-time list
Gore ran for 65 yards on 15 carries during Sunday's 20-3 win over Denver.
Analysis: Gore did the bulk of his damage midway through the third quarter on a 27-yard sweep to the left, but a seven-yard run up the gut in the fourth quarter will get plenty more highlights. On that run, Gore passed Barry Sanders for third on the all-time rushing list. Despite the recent success of rookie Devin Singletary, Gore still leads the Bills in rushing on the season and flashed some of his old self in a run-heavy game plan Sunday. If the Bills show a more balanced attack Thursday in Dallas,…read more

Plodding along
Gore carried 11 times for 27 yards and caught one of two targets for 18 yards during Sunday's victory over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Devin Singletary -- who has passed Gore on the depth chart -- saw 15 carries Sunday to Gore's 11. The latter hasn't averaged better than 3.8 yards per carry over the last four games, and hasn't seen the end zone since Week 3. With bye weeks just about over throughout the league, Gore doesn't hold much value even if he does serve as a decent senior leader and change-of-pace option for the Bills.

Back seat to Singletary
Gore carried five times for just 12 yards and caught his only target for four yards in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
Analysis: The 36-year-old is still part of the weekly game plan, but he's not hitting the holes like he was earlier in the season and rookie Devin Singletary (eight carries for 42 yards and three catches Sunday) clearly has the bigger spark. Gore was fantasy useable earlier this season with Singletary sidelined with a hamstring injury, but that time seems to have passed and the former seems resigned to a change-of-pace role the rest of the way. Perhaps the Bills will use Gore around the goal line, but…read more

Shut down by Washington front seven
Gore managed only 15 yards on 11 carries and did not record a reception during Sunday's 24-9 win against the Redskins.
Analysis: Prior to Week 9, Gore had garnered an average of 7.5 more carries per game than Devin Singletary in four contests in which both running backs were active. The script was completely flipped Sunday, however, as Singletary peeled off gains of seven, nine, 17 and 49 yards in the first half, and apparently convinced the coaching staff to stay with the hot hand -- fielding 14 touches to Gore's four during the second half. Upcoming in Week 10, Gore and Singletary will split carries against a Cleveland…read more
