Paces team in receiving yardage
Brate brought in four of five targets for 50 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-20 divisional-round win over the Saints on Sunday.
Analysis: The veteran tight end played a key role in the passing game for the second straight postseason win, leading the Buccaneers in receiving yardage on the evening in the process. Brate has surprisingly become a much more frequent target for Tom Brady than the latter's long-time teammate Rob Gronkowski, and he'll look to again make an impact in next Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Packers at Lambeau Field.

Racks up yardage in win
Brate brought in four of six targets for 80 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-23 wild-card win over Washington on Saturday night. He also fumbled once, but it was recovered by the offense.
Analysis: The veteran tight end surprisingly played an expanded role in the win, and his night would have been even bigger had he hung on for a tough catch in the end zone with 9:13 remaining that was initially ruled a touchdown and then reversed. Brate's production particularly stood out when considering fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski saw just a single target all evening, but it's worth noting Brate also had a pair of four-catch outings over the last five games of the regular season. Makes one catch in win
Brate secured one of two targets for an 11-yard reception in the Buccaneers' 44-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: The veteran tight end finished the regular season with at least one reception in seven straight games, a modest but noteworthy accomplishment considering Brate's typically modest snap share and the abundance of other passing game options for Tom Brady. Coming into the season, it was difficult to envision how Brate would have any truly appreciable role in the offense due to the Buccaneers' air attack's well-stocked shelf, but the Harvard product was active for all 16 games and finished with a…read more

Pair of grabs in big victory
Brate brought in both his targets for 27 yards in the Buccaneers' 47-7 win over the Lions on Saturday.
Analysis: Brate played his usual complementary role in the blowout win, recording multiple receptions for the second straight game and fifth time in the last six games overall. The 29-year-old may have a chance for an expanded role in a Week 17 matchup versus the Falcons if coach Bruce Arians opts to rest some of his front-line players in the event Tampa Bay jumps out to a comfortable lead.

Reemerges in Week 15 win
Brate secured all four targets for 54 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: Brate had seen a sudden downturn in targets coming out of the bye in Week 14 against Minnesota, logging just a single look from Tom Brady in that contest. That followed a three-game stretch prior to the Buccaneers' week off during which the veteran tight end had seen a total of 13 passes come his way, parlaying those opportunities into a serviceable 10-88-1 line. Brate's resurgence Sunday saw him return to a similar level of involvement, but the fact he's part of an offense that has so many…read more

Limited to one grab in win
Brate (illness) secured his sole target for nine yards in the Buccaneers' 26-14 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: Brate shook off a late-week illness to log 24 snaps in the contest, but he was limited to his sparsest production since a Week 9 blanking over 12 snaps against the Saints. Brate had multiple receptions in three straight games prior to Sunday, and while he's capable of similar occasional spikes, he remains a middling option during the fantasy postseason due to the considerable amount of competition he faces for targets.

Ready to face Vikings
Brate (illness) is active for Sunday's game versus the Vikings, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: As expected, Brate has shaken off the illness that surfaced Friday and will suit up in Week 14. He should operate as the No. 2 tight end behind Rob Gronkowski, while Tanner Hudson, who missed the last game following the passing of his father, will return to the lineup and slot in as the No. 3 tight end.

Should play Sunday
Brate (illness) is expected to play in Sunday's game versus the Vikings, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Brate was added to the injury report Saturday. The illness hasn't been linked to COVID-19, and he's healthy enough to play in Sunday's NFC matchup. He'll slot in as the No. 2 tight end behind Rob Gronkowski. Over the last three games, Brate has reeled in 10 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, playing less than 50 percent of the snaps in each outing.

Questionable for Sunday
Brate (illness) has been added to the injury report and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: Brate has seen an uptick in playing time as of late, parlaying at least 20 offensive snaps in each of the last three games into 10 receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Hudson, who missed the previous game after the passing of his father, would step in as the No. 2 option if Brate were ruled out ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET showdown with the Vikings.

Four catches in loss
Brate secured four of six targets for 34 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-24 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.
Analysis: The veteran tight end recorded multiple receptions for the third straight game, easily making it his most productive multi-week stretch of the season. Brate has seen his target tally climb in each of the three contests as well, but he continues to carry a relatively low fantasy floor thanks to the fact he sees the majority of his opportunities relatively close to the line of scrimmage while position mate Rob Gronkowski handles the downfield routes. Three grabs in defeat
Brate secured three of four targets for 23 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-24 loss to the Rams on Monday night.
Analysis: The veteran tight end showed up on the stat sheet for the second straight game after a largely invisible first nine weeks of the season. Brate now has multiple receptions in consecutive contests for the first time all season after posting a 3-31-1 line against the Panthers in Week 11. Despite the modest impact, the reality is Brate's numbers could quickly plummet on any given week, given the wealth of talent at the pass-catching positions for the Buccaneers. Finds end zone in win
Brate secured all three of his targets for 31 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' 46-23 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: The oft-forgotten tight end was able to make a nice impact in the contest with a five-yard scoring grab late in the first quarter. The catch represented Brate's second visit to the end zone this season, with the other having come Week 4 against the Chargers. Despite the surprising success Sunday, it's worth noting Brate had a combined 4-46 line over the prior four games, making him a speculative play at best for a Week 11 Monday night showdown against the Rams.

No targets in Week 9 loss
Brate did not see a target over 12 snaps from scrimmage during the Buccaneers' 38-3 loss to the Saints on Sunday night.
Analysis: The veteran tight end's blanking on the stat sheet unfortunately might become more of the norm moving forward, much to the chagrin of he and his fantasy managers. Even on a night when Tom Brady was forced to go heavily to the air, the fact the rest of the team's extremely deep pass-catching corps was at full health resulted in Brate being a complete non-factor. Brate will hope to have at least a modest number of opportunities in a Week 10 NFC South battle against the Panthers.

Pair of grabs in close win
Brate brought in both of his targets for 35 yards in the Buccaneers' 25-23 win over the Giants on Monday night.
Analysis: The veteran tight end was a solid complementary presence, trailing position mate Rob Gronkowski by two catches and two targets while playing just 12 snaps for the second consecutive contest. Brate does have at least one catch in five straight games, but his already shaky level of involvement could take a further hit with the expected Week 9 debut of Antonio Brown (suspension) adding another asset to the pass-catching pool.

One catch in big win
Brate brought in his only target for an eight-yard catch in the Buccaneers' 45-20 win over the Raiders on Sunday.
Analysis: Brate logged just 12 snaps from scrimmage overall, which constituted 17 percent of Tampa Bay's offensive plays on the day. The veteran's playing time was at its lowest point since prior to O.J. Howard's season-ending Achilles tear, so it remains to be seen if Sunday's usage was merely an outlier or the start of a longer-term trend. What is more certain is that the target share of the remaining members of Tampa Bay's pass-catching corps will take a hit once Antonio Brown (suspension) hits the…read more

Limited to once catch
Brate hauled in his only target for three yards in the Buccaneers' 38-10 win over the Packers on Sunday.
Analysis: With Chris Godwin returning from a hamstring injury, position mate Rob Gronkowski logging a team-high eight targets and Ronald Jones responsible for most of the remaining offensive production, Brate was mostly a forgotten man one game after posting a season-best 5-44 line in a Week 5 loss to the Bears. Reemerges in Week 5 loss
Brate secured five of six targets for 44 yards in the Buccaneers' 20-19 loss to the Bears on Thursday night.
Analysis: Kept in proverbial mothballs for the first three games of the season, Brate was on the radar for the first time in 2020 in Sunday's win over the Chargers by virtue of a three-yard touchdown grab. However, he was back to playing a significant role Thursday, tying Mike Evans for the team lead in receptions and drawing even with Rob Gronkowski and Tyler Johnson for second in targets. Scores on first catch of '20
Brate brought in his only target for a three-yard touchdown in the Buccaneers' 38-31 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
Analysis: The veteran tight end had yet to be targeted coming into Sunday's contest, and although he only played on 16 snaps (21 percent) against the Chargers, Brate was able to make the most of the one ball thrown his way. Ironically, his first-quarter touchdown grab came way before O.J. No catches Week 3
Brate was not targeted during Sunday's 28-10 win against the Broncos.
Analysis: The Harvard grad has seen only 16 total offensive snaps over the first three weeks of 2020, and Tom Brady has yet to target him once. Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard are the only Tampa tight ends with any receptions at eight apiece. Brate collected 36 catches, 311 yards and four touchdowns last year while splitting duties at the position with Howard, but his current role appears to be extremely limited.

Non-factor again in Week 2
Brate played on just four snaps from scrimmage in Sunday's 31-17 win over the Panthers and did not record a target.
Analysis: The veteran tight end saw one target that he failed to bring in during the Week 1 loss to the Saints, and Brate was even less of a presence against Carolina. With top two tight ends Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard logging 42 and 34 snaps respectively, on Sunday, Brate is the clear odd man out, even with position mate Antony Auclair (calf) on injured reserve.

Blanked Week 1
Brate failed to bring in his only target in the Buccaneers' 34-23 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Analysis: Tom Brady put the ball up a relatively modest (by passing-era standards) 36 times, and with Brate considerably down the pass-catcher pecking order, he saw minimal opportunity. Position mates Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard saw a combined nine targets go their way, and Brate could similarly find himself behind the duo on many weeks this season. Brate will look to record his first 2020 catch in a Week 2 battle against the Panthers.

Stands out in Wednesday's practice
Brate made several noteworthy catches during Wednesday's training camp practice, a session fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski sat out for rest, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Brate has arguably gotten the least press of the Buccaneers' impressive top tight-end triumvirate thus far in camp, but Wednesday, he took advantage of both Gronkowki's absence and his solid rapport with backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who got extra reps himself with Tom Brady also getting a veteran's day off. Brate, who was a frequent attendee at the informal workouts Tom Brady organized this offseason, recently revealed he was infected with COVID-19 at some point, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: It's unclear at what point of the offseason Brate was infected, and the veteran tight end has not elaborated on whether he had any symptoms. However, Brate did confirm the diagnosis in an Instagram post, during which he also promoted plasma donations for those who have survived the virus. Attends Brady-organized workout
Brate was among a contingent of Buccaneers skill-position players that attended a workout organized by Tom Brady at Berkeley Preparatory School on Tuesday, Rick Stroud and Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times report.
Analysis: Brate reportedly had already been getting some work in with Brady for multiple weeks, but he was joined by a significant number of his teammates Tuesday. That included fellow tight end O.J. Howard but apparently not Rob Gronkowski, who already has plenty of familiarity with the Buccaneers' new quarterback. Brate's track record of dependable routes and hands -- not to mention his red-zone prowess -- could make him one of Brady's more dependable second-tier targets when the future Hall of Famer…read more

Less likely to be moved
Brate is less likely to be traded than O.J. Howard in the wake of the Buccaneers' acquisition of Rob Gronkowski on Tuesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Auman cites two principal factors for this line of thinking, the first being that Brate already agreed to a contract restructure in March that saw him take a $4.25 million pay cut to remain on the roster for 2020. The other is the likelihood the 28-year-old would fetch a lower draft pick in a trade than the younger and more athletic Howard, despite Brate's superior proficiency in the red zone and more productive career to date. Staying with Bucs
Brate agreed to restructure his contract with Tampa Bay on Sunday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Brate was originally due to make $6 million with the team in 2020, but he's expected to take a pay cut of some kind. He's been a steady contributor for the Buccaneers in his career, as over the past five years, his 27 touchdowns ranks fourth among tight ends over that span. Despite likely sitting behind O.J. Howard on the depth chart heading next season, his fantasy value received a major boost when Tom Brady elected to sign with Tampa Bay.

Makes sole grab count in finale
Brate secured one of three targets for a two-yard touchdown in the Buccaneers' 28-22 overtime loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: He finished the 2019 season with 36 receptions (55 targets) for 311 yards and four touchdowns across 16 games. Brate at least managed to get into the end zone during the finale, salvaging what was otherwise a disappointing performance. The tight end did boost both his reception and receiving yardage totals over those of 2018, but his numbers were still modest. Pair of catches in loss
Brate secured two of five targets for 17 yards in the Buccaneers' 23-20 loss to the Texans on Saturday.
Analysis: The expectation was that Brate and fellow tight end O.J. Howard would see an uptick in workload Saturday with both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin sidelined due to hamstring injuries. However, that didn't equate to any uptick in production for Brate, who actually generated his lowest production of the last three games. Analysis: The veteran tight end tied for second with Breshad Perriman for targets on the afternoon, and he was just one behind the pace set by position mate O.J. Howard in that category. Brate's target share was his second highest of the campaign as well, and he could be in for a solid workload again Week 16 against the Texans with both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin set to miss the contest due to their respective hamstring injuries.

Analysis: The veteran tight end got into the end zone for the first time since Week 6 on a three-yard grab with 38 seconds left in the first half. Brate's four receptions also served as his second-highest tally of the season and snapped a miserable two-game stretch during which he secured one of two targets for five yards. Minimally involved in Week 13 win
Brate brought in his only target for five yards in the Buccaneers' 28-11 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
Analysis: A week after going without a reception for the third time this season, Brate managed only a slight improvement against the Jaguars. In contrast, position mate O.J. Howard recorded a season-high five receptions, but the use of the tight end position in coach Bruce Arians' offensive scheme continues to feature considerable game-to-game volatility. Invisible in Week 12 win
Brate failed to bring in his only target in the Buccaneers' 35-22 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: A week removed from a career-high 10-catch tally versus the Saints, Brate was a complete non-factor against the Falcons. At this stage of the season, trying to figure out how much the Buccaneers' tight ends -- be it Brate or O.J. Howard -- will be involved on any given week is pure guesswork, and neither player is therefore a reliable option heading into a Week 13 matchup versus the Jaguars.

Analysis: Brate paced the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yardage and targets, putting together his best performance of the season after not seeing a target in Week 10 against the Cardinals. The veteran tight end's production has been anything but trustworthy, with the fact he came reasonably close to exceeding his season reception tally of 15 catches Sunday a fitting example of how uninvolved Brate has often been. No targets in loss
Brate (ribs) wasn't targeted in the Buccaneers' 40-34 overtime loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Brate saw fellow tight ends Tanner Hudson and Antony Auclair rather surprisingly log two targets apiece while he was shut out altogether. There was no report prior to the game Brate would be under any sort of snap limit if he was active, and there were no immediate details available after the game with respect to Brate's lack of involvement. Brate (ribs) is active for Sunday's Week 9 tilt against the Seahawks, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Brate was trending upward as the practice week went on, and this confirms his status as the No. 1 option at tight end for Jameis Winston against Seattle with O.J. Howard (hamstring) inactive. With Jordan Leggett (coach's decision) a healthy scratch as well, Brate will be backed up by Antony Auclair and Tanner Hudson for the second straight week, although neither seems to be a serious threat to Brate's snaps.
