Catches four passes
Shepard caught four of seven targets for 28 yards in Monday night's 23-17 overtime loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: Shepard trailed only Darius Slayton in all major receiving categories, but his production was a far cry from the rookie's 5-154-2 line. With Eli Manning at quarterback, Shepard represents the most familiar face in New York's passing offense, which figures to benefit him as long as Daniel Jones (ankle) remains sidelined. Although that situation didn't bear much fruit Monday, Week 15's matchup against the lowly Dolphins could be different.

To have familiar face at QB
Shepard is expected to be on the receiving end of passes from Eli Manning and not Daniel Jones (ankle) on Monday at Philadelphia, Dan Benton of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Jones emerged from Week 13 with a sore right ankle, but a subsequent MRI revealed a "moderate" high-ankle sprain. Considered "week-to-week" by coach Pat Shurmur, Jones is slated to be inactive Monday, yielding his starting spot to Manning. Shepard thus will have a familiar face leading the offense versus an Eagles defense that the wide receiver has feasted against in six matchups, notching 35 catches for 457 yards and four touchdowns, per the Giants' official site.

Scores in loss
Shepard caught three of seven passes for 40 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 31-13 loss to Green Bay.
Analysis: Shepard tied the game up late in the first quarter when he corralled an 18-yard lollipop from Daniel Jones near the front pylon for his first touchdown since Week 3. Injuries and overall offensive struggles have kept Shepard down for much of this season, but he's been prolific when in the game, with at least seven targets in all six of his starts this season. He's a strong fit for Jones' quick-strike style, and the two's rapport should improve with time. Next up is a Week 14 Monday night…read more

Five catches in return
Shepard caught five of nine targets for 15 yards and added a 22-yard rush in Sunday's 19-14 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Shepard failed to break free for a catch of longer than six yards, but he found some space on an end-around. More importantly, he looked healthy in his first game action since Week 5, leading the team in targets. There should be better days ahead for Shepard now that he's back from a concussion. Up next is a Week 13 home date with the Packers.

Removed from concussion protocol
Shepard has been cleared from the concussion protocol and will play in Sunday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: A full practice participant throughout the week, Shepard gained clearance Friday afternoon from an independent neurologist. He'll suit up for the first time since Week 5, joining Golden Tate and Darius Slayton in three-wide formations. A road matchup with the Bears defense isn't easy, but there should at least be a few extra targets to go around with tight ends Evan Engram (foot) and Rhett Ellison (concussion) both ruled out for Sunday's game.

Hoping for clearance Friday
Shepard (concussion) will visit an independent neurologist Friday in an effort to gain clearance for Sunday's game in Chicago, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Shepard has been a full practice participant throughout the week, potentially setting up his first game appearance since Week 5. The Giants certainly could use the pass-catching help, with tight ends Evan Engram (foot) and Rhett Ellison (concussion) both ruled out already. Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record relays that coach Pat Shurmur is optimistic Shepard will be cleared for Sunday's game.

Another full practice Thursday
Shepard (concussion) practiced fully Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports.
Analysis: Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, coach Pat Shurmur expects Shepard to get out of the concussion protocol prior to Sunday's game at Chicago, but his evaluation in front of an independent neurologist won't happen until Friday, at the earliest. While Shepard has logged back-to-back full practices, it should be noted he logged three in row Week 9 before having a recurrence of symptoms and reentering the protocol. As a result, nothing is guaranteed with the health of the fourth-year wide receiver.

Trending in right direction
Shepard (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Shepard remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, but the Giants expect him to receive full clearance from an independent neurologist later this week. Barring any setbacks, the 25-year-old is trending toward suiting up for Sunday's contest against the Bears after missing the Giants' previous five contests.

Puts in full practice
Shepard (concussion) was a full participant at Monday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Giants won't release an official injury report until Wednesday, but the fact he was considered a full participant Monday backs up coach Pat Shurmur's optimism for a return this week. Regardless, the 25-year-old will need to gain clearance from an independent neurologist at some point this week if he's going to play Sunday against the Bears. Shepard suffered his second concussion of the season Week 5 versus the Vikings and has missed the last five games.

Coach optimistic for Week 12 return
Coach Pat Shurmur said after Monday's practice that he's optimistic Shepard will clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol and suit up Week 12 against the Bears, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: While Shepard remains in the protocol coming off the Giants' Week 11 bye, he took a notable step forward by participating in Monday's practice. The extent of his participation won't be known until the Giants release their first injury report of the week Wednesday, and Shepard still will need to gain clearance from an independent neurologist at some point if he's to return to action versus the Bears. Takes part in practice
Shepard (concussion) was seen participating Monday in the Giants' practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Giants won't release their first Week 12 injury report until Wednesday, at which time Shepard likely will go down as either a limited or full participant in practice. The difference between limited and full participation is fairly significant for the wideout, as the latter would indicate that he has been given the green light to take contact. Ready to resume practicing
Coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that Shepard (concussion) will resume practicing while the Giants are on bye in Week 11, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
Analysis: While Shepard's ability to practice is encouraging, it's likely he'll still be barred from taking contact since he remains in the NFL's concussion protocol. The bye week should aid Shepard's chances of making it back to action for the Giants' next game Nov. 24 versus the Bears, but clearing the five-step protocol for head injuries still looms as a major obstacle for the wideout. Out for another week
Shepard (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Shepard will miss a fifth straight game as he recovers from his second concussion of the year. He cleared the concussion protocol last Friday, only to re-enter it a couple days later and get ruled out for Monday's 37-18 loss to the Cowboys. Another absence leaves Darius Slayton in a full-time role outside, with Golden Tate manning the slot and Bennie Fowler and/or Cody Latimer taking the third receiver spot. Presumed out all week
Shepard (concussion) appears unlikely to return to practice this week, as Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports there will be "no activity" for the wideout.
Analysis: Shepard has been sidelined for four consecutive weeks now, and with another recent occurrence of concussion symptoms, the team won't be taking any risks. Despite an uphill battle ahead, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that the team hasn't yet considered injured reserve, and intends for Shephard to return this season. The Giants announced that Shepard re-entered the NFL's concussion protocol. The wideout has been ruled out for the Giants' Monday night game against the Cowboys.
Analysis: Shepard cleared the five-step concussion protocol earlier this week and was set to return from a three-game absence, but he reported a recurrence of the concussion symptoms after meeting with the Giants' medical staff Saturday evening, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic. With Shepard's absence now extended by at least one more contest, Golden Tate, Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley should be locked in as the Giants' clear top three options in the passing game.

He's been a limited participant in practice the last two weeks, but his ability to absorb contact Wednesday suggests he could be listed as a full participant in the Giants' first injury report of Week 9, which will be released Thursday. Analysis: A limited participant in every practice the past two weeks, Shepard hasn't been able to clear concussion protocol after suffering his second head injury of the season back in Week 5. His absence locks in Golden Tate and Darius Slayton for heavy snap counts, while Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler and Cody Core have all seen some run in the No. 3 role.

Shepard (concussion) remained a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Shepard has now maintained limited activity in each of the Giants' last five practices, but until he upgrades to full participation, his return to game action shouldn't be viewed as forthcoming. Unlikely to play in Week 8
Coach Pat Shurmur said Thursday that it's a "strong possibility" that Shepard (concussion) won't play in Sunday's game against the Lions, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Though Shepard continues to participate in practice in limited fashion and said Tuesday that he has been free of concussion-like symptoms for two weeks, the Giants look prepared to proceed without their top wideout for yet another game. On a more positive note, Shepard said Tuesday that he's free of concussion symptoms, per Tom Rock of Newsday. Says he's symptom-free
Shepard said Tuesday that he's been free of concussion symptoms for two weeks and is only waiting for medical clearance to resume playing, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Though Shepard indicated he feels fine physically, doctors are understandably proceeding cautiously with the wideout while he recovers from his second concussion of the season. Shepard practiced on a limited basis Wednesday through Friday last week, so he'll likely need to advance to full participation at some point within the next few days and gain clearance from an independent neurologist in order to play Sunday in Detroit.

Ruled out for Sunday
Shepard (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Arizona.
Analysis: Despite managing limited participation earlier this week, Shepard won't make it back from his second concussion of the season in time to avoid a Week 7 absence. The Giants likely will deploy Golden Tate, Darius Slayton and Cody Latimer in three-wide sets, though Cody Core and Bennie Fowler could also get some snaps. Shepard (concussion) isn't expected to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Shepard suffered his second concussion of the season in Week 5 and missed last Thursday's loss to the Patriots, so it's not a major surprise that he isn't expected to clear the concussion protocol in advance of this weekend. The 25-year-old has been working as a limited practice participant this week, but has yet to be cleared for any contact work. Shepard (concussion) wasn't seen at Tuesday's practice and will go down as a non-participant on the Giants' official report, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: With Shepard suffering his second concussion of the season in the Week 5 loss to the Vikings, the Giants aren't counting on him clearing the NFL's protocol for head injuries in advance of Thursday's matchup with the Patriots. Considering top tight end Evan Engram (knee) is also iffy for the Week 6 game, quarterback Daniel Jones could be forced to rely on Golden Tate and rookie Darius Slayton as his primary targets in the passing attack.

Shepard caught five of 10 targets for 49 yards and carried once for a two-yard loss during Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: Shepard set a new season high in targets, but he hauled in just half of the passes thrown his way. Shepard caught seven of nine targets for 76 yards and carried once for an additional 23 yards during Sunday's 24-3 win over the Redskins.

He's meshed well with rookie quarterback Daniel Jones over the last two contests, catching 14 of 18 targets for 176 yards and a touchdown, in addition to 44 rushing yards. Shepard will face a tough home matchup next Sunday against the Vikings, but his prominent role in the passing game should still afford him some fantasy utility.

He played a big part in his team's second-half comeback and helped them draw near with a seven-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. Shepard seems clear of any after-effects of the concussion he dealt with and could be in line for an increase in fantasy value with Daniel Jones now at the helm. Analysis: Any degree of participation marks a step forward after Shepard was held out of practice last week. With Golden Tate suspended for two more games and Cody Latimer joining Shepard in the concussion protocol, the Giants may be short on receiving weapons in the first start of Daniel Jones' NFL career Sunday in Tampa Bay. Shepard at least seems to have a shot at returning for the game.

Ready for non-contact work
Coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that Shepard (concussion) has been cleared to practice without contact, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Shurmur's comments indicate that Shepard has moved on to the fourth phase of the five-step process for the NFL's concussion protocol. Shepard will still need to advance to full participation and receive clearance from an independent neurologist before his availability for the Giants' Week 3 matchup with the Buccaneers is confirmed, but the receiver looks to be trending in the right direction.

Remains in concussion protocol
Shepard is still in the NFL's concussion protocol, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Shepard was held out of practice all last week and ruled out Friday for Sunday's eventual loss to the Bills. With Cody Latimer joining Shepard in the concussion protocol and Golden Tate suspended two more weeks, the Giants are left with Bennie Fowler, Russell Shepard, TJ Jones and Cody Core as their healthy wide receivers. The team travels to Tampa Bay in Week 3.

Ruled out with concussion
Shepard (concussion) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bills, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Giants already were missing Golden Tate (suspension) and also have Cody Latimer (calf) listed as questionable. Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram could see volume beyond the already huge expectations, with the healthy options at wide receiver limited to Bennie Fowler, Russell Shepard, Cody Core and TJ Jones. The next chance for Sterling Shepard to play will be Week 3 in Tampa Bay (Sept. 22).

No practice reps yet
Shepard (concussion) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Prior to the session, coach Pat Shurmur told Paul Dottino of WFAN that Shepard was still in the concussion protocol, and his lack of on-field activity indicates little progress has been made to date. Per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com, Shepard did work out on a side field, so he may not be too far away from a return to practice. Without such reps, though, Shepard will be hard-pressed to get in front of an independent neurologist before Sunday's game against the Bills.

Doesn't practice Wednesday
Shepard (concussion) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Although he fit in some jogging during this session, Shepard has yet to be cleared for even individual drills. Considering the path he must travel to get out of the concussion protocol, his lack of activity doesn't bode well for his Week 2 status. Nonetheless, Shepard has a pair of practices to put himself on track for a potential appearance Sunday against the Bills.

Fits in some jogging Wednesday
Shepard (concussion) was spotted jogging at Wednesday's practice, Ryan Dunleavy of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Shepard entered the concussion protocol in the aftermath of the Giants' Week 1 loss at Dallas. With a number of phases to get through to receive clearance to play, his activity level in practice will be one to watch as the week goes on. In the end, Wednesday's injury report will reveal how much he was able to participate, if he does at all.

In concussion protocol
The Giants have confirmed that Shepard is in the NFL's concussion protocol, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: With Golden Tate (suspension) still slated to miss the Giants' next three games, the team would be further taxed at wide receiver if Shepard isn't ready for Sunday's game against the Bills. Next up for targets at the position are Cody Latimer and Bennie Fowler.

May have concussion
Shepard may have suffered a concussion during Sunday's 35-17 loss to the Cowboys, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Shepard played 68 of 69 snaps on offense in the season opener, catching six of seven targets for 42 yards. Despite playing the entire game, he seems to be dealing with symptoms that warrant evaluation for a concussion. With Golden Tate (suspension) already out for four games, the Giants will be extremely shorthanded at wide receiver if Shepard isn't ready for Week 2 against the Bills.

Done with thumb splint
Shepard (thumb) has been practicing without a splint for more than a week, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Shepard was held out for the entire preseason after he fractured the tip of his left thumb on the second day of training camp. He said he'll be ready for the season opener Sunday in Dallas, with a good chance to draw steady targets as the unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver while Golden Tate serves a four-game suspension. It remains to be seen if the Giants even list Shepard on their Week 1 injury report.

On pace for Week 1 appearance
Shepard (thumb) is in line to be ready for the Giants' Week 1 visit to Dallas, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: After fracturing the tip of his left thumb in the Giants' second practice of training camp, Shepard missed the entire preseason, as expected. By the time preparation for the regular-season opener starts after Labor Day weekend, he'll have more than two weeks of contact reps under his belt, backing up Raanan's contention that Shepard will be one of Eli Manning's primary weapons in the passing attack Week 1.

Ruled out for Thursday
Shepard (thumb) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Bengals, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Shepard fractured the tip of his left thumb on the second day of training camp and was limited to non-contact work until this past weekend. Coach Pat Shurmur said the wide receiver is on track for Week 1 against Dallas, though Shepard still has a splint on his thumb for support, per Tom Rock of Newsday.

Ditches non-contact jersey
Shepard (thumb) was not sporting a non-contact jersey Sunday at practice, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Per Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site, coach Pat Shurmur noted Sunday that "it's just the next step in the process" for Shepard. We'll go a little further and say that it's a pretty big step, one which puts the team's top wideout on pace to be ready for Week 1. For his part, Shepard indicated Sunday that his thumb has healed up pretty fast and he's "feeling good."

Another X-ray on tap
Shepard (thumb) is slated to undergo another X-ray soon, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: The wideout notes that he's taking things day-by-day for now, but he has been able to get some work in at practice while he's on the mend, noting "my thumb is broken, but my legs aren't." Barring any setbacks, Shepard is expected to be fine in advance of the Giants' regular-season opener.

Displaying progress
Shepard is hopeful to have the splint on his left thumb removed next week, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Shepard, who is recovering from a fractured thumb, was able to pull in a ball with his right hand during 11-on-11 drills Wednesday and run the length of the field for a score. Though the wideout is obviously limited and sporting a non-contact jersey these days, coach Pat Shurmur is trying to keep Shepard engaged in team activities, with an eye toward getting the 25-year-old ready for Week 1.

Doesn't need surgery
Shepard (thumb) doesn't need surgery and may return to practice before the end of training camp, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Early reports hinted at the broken thumb potentially threatening Shepard's Week 1 availability, but coach Pat Shurmur said Friday that he isn't at all worried about the injury, per Vacchiano. It's some much-needed good news for a Giants team that lost fellow wideout Corey Coleman to a torn ACL during Thursday's practice. Regardless of his preseason participation, Shepard is expected to be fine for Week 1 at Dallas.

Likely out for preseason
Shepard (thumb) is expected to miss the entire preseason, but the Giants are hopeful to have him back for Week 1, Alex Smith of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Shepard will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis after suffering a broken thumb during Thursday's practice. The timing of the injury gives him more than six weeks to recover before Week 1 at Dallas, with Corey Coleman, Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler and Darius Slayton (hamstring) potentially benefiting from added practice reps in the meantime.

Suffers broken thumb
Shepard suffered a thumb fracture Thursday and will be evaluated week to week.
Analysis: Shepard's timetable presents the possibility that he still will be ready for the start of the regular season. Shepard (wrist) was dominant at June minicamp, NJ.com's Matt Lombardo reports.
Analysis: Signed to a four-year, $41 million extension this offseason, Shepard is preparing to take more snaps outside in an effort to accommodate Golden Tate. Missing practice with wrist injury
Coach Pat Shurmur said Shepard missed Wednesday's practice due to a minor wrist injury, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
Analysis: It's possible Shepard's absence could be precautionary, but his situation will nonetheless be worth monitoring in advance of training camp. Inks four-year extension
Shepard agreed in principle Wednesday with the Giants on a four-year, $41 million extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Shepard, who was set to become a free agent next offseason, gets a deal that surpasses that of new teammate Golden Tate, who received a four-year, $37.5 million contract from the Giants last month. The extension immediately quiets any speculation that Tate's addition has put Shepard on the trade block and suggests the latter is a big part of what the Giants want to do offensively moving forward. Headed for more snaps outside
Shepard likely will play most of his snaps outside in 2019, Scott Thompson of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: The Giants replaced Odell Beckham with 30-year-old Golden Tate, who primarily works inside and excels after the catch. Shepard is approximately the same size as Tate and also has spent most of his career in the slot, but the 25-year-old appears to be a better fit outside thanks to his superior straight-line speed and leaping ability. Primed for heavy target counts
Shepard is primed for a larger role within the Giants offense after the team traded Odell Beckham (quad) to the Browns on Tuesday, Matt Lombardo of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Primarily a slot receiver through his first three seasons, Shepard averaged 63.3 catches for 762 yards and 4.7 touchdowns on 98.7 targets over 14.3 games. There was a clear pattern of extra volume whenever Beckham missed time with an injury, but Shepard wasn't consistent in taking advantage of those opportunities. Par for the course
Shepard finished the season with 66 catches for 872 yards and four touchdowns on 107 targets.
Analysis: Shepard was slightly disappointing given Odell Beckham's (quadriceps) late-season absence and Evan Engram missing time with a knee injury during the middle of the year, but the Eli Manning factor mitigates that. A solid route runner with average size and speed, Shepard should reprise his usual role as the No. 2 wideout behind Beckham in 2019. Better play under center could raise Shepard's fantasy ceiling.

Analysis: The Giants scaled back Shepard's practice reps Wednesday due to a hip issue, but the third-year pro returned to full capacity one day later. Fellow member of the receiving corps Odell Beckham (quadriceps) is trending toward a fourth consecutive absence, leaving Shepard to act as the No. 1 wideout yet again Sunday against the Cowboys. Dealing with hip issue
Shepard was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a hip issue.
Analysis: Shepard didn't show any sign of injury during Sunday's 28-27 loss to Indianapolis, catching six of seven passes for 113 yards while handling an 89 percent snap share. He may be looking at another week as the Giants' No. 1 wide receiver, as Odell Beckham (quadriceps) didn't take part in Wednesday's session. The Week 17 matchup looks tough on paper, but it won't all that difficult if the Cowboys rest some of their key players for at least a portion of the game.

With Odell Beckham Jr. (quad) inactive, Shepard snapped a seven-game streak in which he was held under 40 total yards. Set for No. 1 duties again
Shepard is expected to serve as the Giants' No. 1 receiver in Sunday's game against the Colts with Odell Beckham (quadriceps) sidelined for the third straight week, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: During the prior two games Beckham missed, Shepard noticed a spike in volume (15 targets) but was wildly inefficient, notching four receptions for 54 yards and a score. While the Colts lack a standout cornerback, they rank near the middle of the pack in terms of yards per attempt allowed (7.4, 14th in NFL), so the matchup isn't a fantastic one for Shepard. Wildly inefficient versus Titans
Shepard caught two of nine targets, collecting 37 receiving yards during Sunday's 17-0 loss to Tennessee.
Analysis: Shepard has struggled mightily with efficiency over the past two weeks, hauling in just four of his 15 targets with Odell Beckham Jr. (quadriceps) out of the lineup, compared to a catch rate of 68.4 percent through Week 13. Will be No. 1 receiver again Sunday
Shepard will serve as the Giants' No. 1 wide receiver Sunday against the Titans in the absence of Odell Beckham (quadriceps), Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: After Beckham was ruled out Week 14 at Washington, Shepard led Giants wideouts with 43 (of 64) offensive snaps, which was followed by Corey Coleman's 42, Russell Shepard's 26, Benny Fowler's 26 and Jawill Davis' 26. While Shepard hauled in just two of six targets for 17 yards, one of his three looks in the red zone resulted in a touchdown. He'll attempt to do more Sunday against a Tennessee defense that has given up the sixth-most TDs (17) to wide receivers this season.

Catches TD sans Beckham
Shepard caught two of six targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 40-16 win over the Redskins.

Increased opportunity
Shepard figures to see more targets after Odell Beckham (quadriceps) was surprisingly ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest against the Redskins.
Analysis: It's been an inconsistent third season for Shepard to date, but the 24-year-old is poised for a major opportunity with the news that Beckham would not be available Sunday. Against a Redskins defense that has allowed the third-most fantasy points to the wide receiver position, Shepard figures to easily exceed 17.5 percent of the team targets -- his current average this season -- and should present a lucrative fantasy option for season-long and daily players alike.

Shepard (ribs) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: The ability to practice in any capacity at the beginning of the week suggests Shepard has a good chance to play Sunday at Washington. He fought through the rib injury during last weekend's win over the Bears, returning to the game after an X-ray didn't reveal any fractures. Analysis: Shepard was taken out of Sunday's 30-27 win over Chicago in the second quarter, but he rejoined the contest after halftime and finished with four catches for 28 yards on six targets. The injury might explain why the sure-handed wide receiver was unable to come down with a diving catch attempt in the end zone during the overtime period. This lackluster effort extends a run of futility which has seen Shepard held under 40 receiving yards in five of his last six games while scoring one touchdown in that span. Pair of grabs in win
Shepard brought in both of his targets for 22 yards in the Giants' 38-35 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Analysis: Shepard was quiet in the win, posting his second straight two-catch effort. The third-year pro only has 65 combined receiving yards over the last three games, a significant downturn after he'd notched between 75 and 167 yards in four of the five contests prior.
