  • Out for season

    Zimmer (knee) was placed on injured reserve Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season.

    Analysis: Zimmer's knee injury will require season-ending surgery. This injury will hurt Buffalo's defensive line depth as the backup defensive tackle normally accounted for around 40 percent of defensive snaps. Star Lotulelei and Harrison Phillips and perhaps Vernon Butler will have to step into a bigger role in Zimmer's absence.

    Analysis: Zimmer upped his workload to full Friday after being limited both Wednesday and Thursday, so we'd imagine the depth defensive lineman is on the better side of questionable. Zimmer isn't much of an IDP factor with just eight tackles and a sack through six games, but he's a key depth guy for one of the league's better defenses, playing at least 37 percent of the defensive snaps in all six games to date.

    The Bills promoted Zimmer from their practice squad ahead of Monday's game against the Chiefs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

    Analysis: Buffalo is expected to make defensive linemen Trent Murphy and Harrison Phillips healthy inactives for the Week 6 contest, so Zimmer and Bryan Cox were summoned on short notice to provide extra depth along the defensive front.
