Rejoins Chargers' practice squad
Pope was signed to the Chargers' practice squad Saturday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: The Chargers have routinely used their weekly practice squad call-ups to rotate their running back depth chart, so it makes sense Pope would return to the team's practice squad. The health of Austin Ekeler and Kalen Ballage have relegated Pope to obscurity, but the shifty back did see action in five games so far this season and has totaled 118 yards across 23 touches.

Let go by Chargers
The Chargers waived Pope on Thursday.
Analysis: Pope saw action in five games this season with the Chargers, rushing the ball 15 times for 76 yards, and he added eight receptions for 42 yards. Pope was fazed out of the game plan the past two weeks with Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson returning from injured reserve, so this news isn't surprising. Pope could end up back on the practice squad with the Chargers or elsewhere before the season concludes.

Clear of neck injury
Pope (neck) was a full practice participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report.
Analysis: The 27-year-old sat out Week 14 with the neck injury and was estimated as a DNP on Monday's practice report. Pope is unlikely to have much of an offensive role down the stretch for the Chargers with Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson back from injured reserve.

Sitting out Week 14
Pope (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was considered questionable with the neck issue and won't be suiting up Sunday. Justin Jackson (knee) returned from injured reserve Saturday, so Pope may have ended up inactive even if he was healthy.

Listed as questionable
Pope (neck) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Falcons.
Analysis: Pope didn't practice Thursday but was able to get on the field in a limited capacity for Friday's session, thus providing a chance to play this week. With Joshua Kelley (knee) available along with Austin Ekeler and Kalen Ballage, Pope's in danger of being a healthy scratch even if he is cleared to play.

Downgraded in practice
Pope (neck) did not participate during the Chargers' practice session Thursday.
Analysis: The 27-year-old back was unavailable for Los Angeles' 45-0 blanking at the hands of the Patriots, and he's moving in the wrong direction for Week 14. Pope was able to contribute a limited session Wednesday, rendering his Thursday DNP as a clear step back. The Chargers at least had Joshua Kelley (foot) upgrading his practice status from non-participant to limited Thursday, but Pope's outlook remains murky as L.A. heads into its final session of the week.

Held back during practice
Pope (neck) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Pope has a chance to return to the field for this week's game against the Falcons. If he can shake off the injury, a heightened role could be in the works because Joshua Kelley (foot) began the week as a nonparticipant in practice. That wouldn't be a major boost, however, as Pope played just six snaps on offense in the only game he has played with Austin Ekeler in the lineup.

Sitting out Sunday
Pope (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was considered questionable with the neck injury but won't be suiting up Sunday. Pope was unlikely to fill a significant offensive role even if active, since Austin Ekeler and Kalen Ballage (ankle) are both available.

Draws questionable tag for Sunday
Pope (neck) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Patriots.
Analysis: Pope was a late addition to the injury report Saturday after showing no signs of an issue during the practice week. The final verdict on his status may not be available until the inactives list is revealed about 90 minutes before the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. His role on the offense has been essentially eliminated with Austin Ekeler back from IR and Joshua Kelley slotting in as the No. 2, so his potential absence would mainly hurt the backfield depth.

Solo reception in loss
Pope caught his lone target for two yards in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Bills. He also rushed once and lost one yard.
Analysis: With the return of Austin Ekeler (hamstring/knee), Pope only played six of the offensive snaps compared to Joshua Kelley's 19 snaps. While it is unclear whether Kelley or Kalen Ballage (ankle) will continue as Ekeler's backup, Pope almost certainly won't factor into the equation.

Two receptions in win
Pope rushed three times for four yards and caught both of his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 34-28 win against the Jets.
Analysis: After an underwhelming performance against Miami last week, Pope marginally improved his numbers in the air and on the ground during this matchup. The running back also played more offensive snaps (16) than Joshua Kelley (11), but fell far behind Kalen Ballage (55). Pope might completely fall to the wayside if Austin Ekeler (hamstring/knee) returns to the fold as expected next week against the Bills.

Zero snaps
Pope was active in Sunday's 29-21 loss to Miami and did not play any of the offensive snaps.
Analysis: Pope returned after recovering from a neck injury, but he still did not see a single offensive snap. Even with Austin Ekeler (hamstring) and Justin Jackson (knee) placed on IR, and Joshua Kelley's unimpressive performance, Pope was still not used in the Chargers offense. It is clear that the running back will not be a fantasy asset, and managers should focus on utilizing the practice-squad callup Kalen Ballage while he continues to operate as the primary rushing attack.

Back in action Sunday
Pope (neck) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Analysis: Pope carried the ball 10 times for 67 yards and also logged five receptions on seven targets for 28 yards in the Chargers' Week 8 loss to the Broncos, but he subsequently missed last weekend's defeat at the hands of the Raiders. With Austin Ekeler (hamstring/knee) still on IR and Justin Jackson (knee) having joined him in that category, Pope -- now that he's back -- is in line to join a Week 10 backfield that also includes Joshua Kelley and Kalen Ballage, who headed the team's rushing attack in…read more

Status in question for Sunday
Pope (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Miami.
Analysis: After busting out for 95 yards from scrimmage Week 8 in Denver, Pope entered the concussion protocol and proceeded to miss the Chargers' Week 9 defeat to the Raiders. He cleared the protocol for head injuries Wednesday, and while a neck injury didn't cap his practice reps at all this week, he enters the weekend with a cloud hanging over his head. Having said that, there's a good chance he plays Sunday due to Justin Jackson (knee) being ruled out, which would give Joshua Kelley, Pope and likely…read more

Clears concussion protocol
Coach Anthony Lynn said Wednesday that Pope has cleared the league's five-step concussion protocol, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Pope should be available for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, but his role is to be determined. Justin Jackson (knee) seems to be trending in the wrong direction, but practice squad back Kalen Ballage filled in admirably last week, generating 84 total yards and a touchdown on 17 touches. Ultimately, it could be a "hot hand" committee among Pope, Ballage and rookie Joshua Kelley, if Jackson indeed sits out.

Not playing Sunday
Pope (concussion) is inactive for Sunday's game versus Las Vegas, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was listed as doubtful due to the concussion, so he never had much of a chance to play Sunday. Pope still needs to clear the concussion protocol to have a chance of suiting up next week. Kalen Ballage was elevated from the practice squad for backfield depth behind Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley.

Listed as doubtful
Pope (concussion) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Analysis: Unless Pope is able to make exceedingly quick progress and fully clear the league's five-step concussion protocol, including gaining full clearance from an independent neurologist, he won't be eligible to suit up Sunday. If Pope indeed misses time, it could provide Joshua Kelley with increased opportunities alongside presumed starter Justin Jackson.

Still missing practice
Pope didn't practice Thursday due to a concussion.
Analysis: Pope missed his second consecutive practice Thursday as he continues to reside in the league's concussion protocol. Despite spending time between the practice squad and 53-man roster, Pope racked up 15 touches for 95 scrimmage yards in last week's loss to Denver. Pope has just one more practice to take part in this week, so if he's out for Sunday's game against Las Vegas, the Charger backfield will be handled by Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelly.

Logs DNP after concussion diagnosis
Pope (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Pope has shuttled between the Chargers' practice squad and active roster this season, but his first significant action occurred this past Sunday at Denver, where he totaled 15 touches for 95 yards from scrimmage. Unfortunately for Pope, he entered the concussion protocol and must be in the early stages of his recovery due to his lack of activity in the first practice of Week 9. He'll have two more days to take part, but if he's sidelined Sunday against the Raiders, L.A.'s backfield will be…read more

In concussion protocol
Coach Anthony Lynn revealed Wednesday that Pope has entered the NFL's concussion protocol, Gilbert Manzano of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Pope produced 95 yards from scrimmage on 15 touches in last week's loss to Denver, but he apparently suffered a concussion in that contest. If he's unable to clear protocol in time for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley will handle the reps out of the Los Angeles backfield.

Emerges as key piece in loss
Pope carried the ball 10 times for 67 yards and also recorded five receptions on seven targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Broncos.
Analysis: All but eight of Pope's 67 rushing yards came in the second half as the Chargers attempted to sit on a double-digit first-half lead only to watch the game fall out of their grasp in the closing seconds. It's interesting to note Pope's production essentially came at the expense of Joshua Kelley, who hardly played in the later stages of Sunday's contest, although Justin Jackson (41 snaps, 142 total yards) was still around as an effective multi-tooled option. The playing time splits seem to…read more

Signs with active roster
The Chargers signed Pope to the active roster Saturday.
Analysis: The Chargers have already elevated Pope from the practice squad twice, so now they offered him a spot on the 53-man roster. He's rushed just once for six yards this season, and he should continue to add backfield depth until Austin Ekeler (hamstring) returns.

Nonexistent offensive factor
Pope recorded just 29 offensive snaps throughout the 2019 season, finishing the year with 10 carries for 20 yards and two receptions for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: The entirety of Pope's production came in Week 4, when he was forced to act as the backup behind Austin Ekeler. Depending on what the Chargers do with star running back Melvin Gordon and his contract, it's possible Pope might become more involved in the offense in 2020. Otherwise expect the undrafted free agent to reprise his role as the team's leading kickoff returner.
