Staying out west
Willis signed with the Raiders on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Willis will stay out west as he heads to Las Vegas after spending the past three years in San Francisco. After recording 12 tackles (six solo) and two sacks in 2022, the 27-year-old will provide solid rotational depth behind pass rushers Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones as well as see time on special teams next season.

Willis (undisclosed) was reinstated to the 53-man roster Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Willis' return to the active roster will help beef up the 49ers' depth on the defensive line. The veteran edge rusher should suit up Sunday against the Chargers, which will be his first action of the 2022 campaign.

Designated for return
San Francisco designated Willis (undisclosed) for return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Willis' three-week practice window has opened, so he can rejoin his teammates on the practice field. If the 49ers don't activate him before the end of the three-week window, Willis would have to spend the rest of the season on IR.

Activated by 49ers
The 49ers activated Willis from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
Analysis: Wednesday brought good news for the 49ers, as both Willis and D.J. Jones were activated after missing last week's win over the Rams. Now that he's been cleared to return to the team, expect Willis to return to his usual depth defensive line role for Week 13, as he's yet to top 40 percent of defensive snaps in a game this season.

Trade to San Francisco official
The Jets officially traded Willis and a 2021 seventh-round pick to the 49ers on Tuesday in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick.
Analysis: Tom Pelissero of NFL Network first reported that the two sides agreed on a trade Oct. 21, but the deal wasn't finalized until nearly a week later. Willis was inactive for the Jets' loss to the Bills over the weekend as a result, but he should be eligible to contribute for the 49ers in the club's Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks. With the 49ers currently stashing three defensive ends on injured reserve, Willis will provide some much-needed depth on the edge.

Injures ankle Sunday
Willis is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Colts due to an ankle injury.
Analysis: Willis' ankle injury robs the Jets of a rotational player at linebacker, in addition to depth at defensive end. Given that the Jets are already facing a 20-plus point deficit in the fourth quarter, the team may opt to be cautious with Willis and guarantee avoiding any setbacks.
