Shows promise late
Perine finished the 2020 season with nine carries for 51 yards in a Week 17 loss against the Ravens. He ended the season with 63 carries for 301 yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 catches for 66 yards.
Analysis: Perine isn't especially fast or shifty, but he proved capable as the backup to Giovani Bernard after Joe Mixon got hurt. Perine is a free agent this offseason.

Finds end zone twice
Perine rushed the ball 13 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns in Week 16 against the Texans. He added four receptions for 41 yards.
Analysis: Perine was out-carried 16-13 by Giovani Bernard, but he made better use of his chances. The splash play of his performance came on the Bengals' fourth offensive play of the second half, when he broke a number of tackles and rumbled 46 yards for a touchdown. Three drives later, Perine made his second trip to the end zone on three-yard plunge. Entering the week, Perine had failed to command more than 10 carries in any contest and could see his volume decrease in Week 17 against the Ravens.

Limited to four carries
Perine rushed four times for 14 yards in the Bengals' 27-17 win over the Steelers on Monday night.
Analysis: Perine had tied a season high with 10 carries in Week 14 against the Cowboys, but that workload was partly a byproduct of an early Giovani Bernard fumble that earned the veteran a benching. However, coach Zac Taylor gave Bernard ample opportunity to redeem himself Monday night in the form of 25 carries, which led to Perine reverting to a clear backup role. Considering he'd logged zero and three carries in Weeks 12 and 13 before last week's volume spike, the fourth-year pro will be difficult to…read more

Part of three-man committee
Perine carried the ball 10 times for 32 yards in Week 14 against the Cowboys. He added two receptions for nine yards.
Analysis: Perine worked behind both Giovani Bernard and Trayveon Williams, but he got plenty of work after both fumbled early in the game. He wasn't particularly effective, averaging only 3.2 yards per carry. On the other hand, he logged the team's longest rush of the game, which went for 11 yards. Assuming both Williams and Bernard are able to hang onto the ball in Week 15, Perine is likely to return to a smaller role.

Three touches Week 13
Perine had three carries for seven yards during Sunday's 19-7 loss to the Dolphins.
Analysis: The 25-year-old played 17 of 52 offensive snaps while Giovani Bernard handled 14 touches in the defeat. The Bengals previously indicated they expect Joe Mixon (foot) to be back from injured reserve this week, which would push Perine further down the depth chart.

Nearly invisible in loss
Perine saw the field for only seven offensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Giants, catching one pass for two yards without getting any carries.
Analysis: Perine went from being a contested free-agent pickup in the middle of the week when Giovani Bernard's concussion was announced to a droppable player by Sunday, when it was clear that Bernard would play after all.

Six touches in Week 11 loss
Perine rushed five times for 19 yards and caught one of two targets for two yards in Sunday's 20-9 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Perine actually had one more rushing yard on four fewer carries than an ineffective Giovani Bernard, but Bernard handily outperformed Perine as a pass-catcher out of the backfield and should continue to see the majority of backfield reps in Joe Mixon's (foot) absence. With Mixon on IR, Perine should maintain change-of-pace duties behind Bernard against the Giants in Week 12.

Set for top backup role Week 11
Perine is expected to serve as the top backup to Giovani Bernard in the Bengals' game Sunday at Washington after head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Joe Mixon (foot) wouldn't play, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Mixon had already missed the Bengals' previous three games, but Perine only saw notable volume behind Bernard in the last two contests, garnering 11 and eight touches in Weeks 8 and 10, respectively. Even that modest level of usage may be somewhat unreliable going forward should Mixon miss more time, as Perine only received four touches through the first three quarters of last week's 36-10 loss to the Steelers before getting more work in the final 15 minutes of the blowout while Bernard rested.…read more

Leads Bengals in rushing
Perine carried the ball seven times for 48 yards in Week 10 against the Steelers. He added one reception for seven yards.
Analysis: Perine's eight total touches lagged behind Giovani Bernard's 12, but he managed to work more efficiently with his opportunities. He played a key role in the Bengals' lone drive that ended with a touchdown, ripping off a run of 14 yards and a reception that gained an additional seven yards. Perine could be in line for more change-of-pace work if Joe Mixon (foot) remains out in Week 11 against Washington.

Finds end zone vs. Titans
Perine carried 10 times for 32 yards and a touchdown while catching his only target for a two-yard gain during Sunday's 31-20 win over the Titans.
Analysis: With Joe Mixon (foot) out, Perine saw his most action of the season and capitalized with a one-yard touchdown plunge in the second quarter. Gio Bernard also acquitted himself quite well and scored touchdowns of his own, though Perine remained a factor in the running game throughout the contest. Mixon could return to face the Steelers in Week 10 after the upcoming bye, which would send Perine back to a reserve role and fantasy irrelevance.

Minimal work
Perine had one carry for three yards and caught his only target for three yards in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
Analysis: Perine was on the field for 19 offensive snaps, but most of those were in cases where his role was to block. Even if Joe Mixon sits out again next week, Perine's role will be minimal barring an injury to Giovani Bernard.

Increased opportunity on tap
Perine could handle third-down snaps versus the Browns on Sunday with Joe Mixon (foot) having been ruled out, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Giovani Bernard stands to handle the bulk of backfield work with Mixon out, but Perine appears on track to potentially play a change-of-pace role. He's suited up for every game this season but has only handled one carry while primary contributing on special teams. Trayveon Williams could also be active, but he hasn't yet handled a carry in his NFL career.

Logs first carry of 2020
Perine rushed once for no gain in Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Perine recorded his first carry of the season in the fourth quarter after Joe Mixon exited early with a foot injury. Coach Zac Taylor is optimistic about Mixon's availability for this Sunday's matchup against the Browns, but if Mixon is sidelined, Perine and Trayveon Williams could have roles in the backfield behind Giovani Bernard.

Claimed by Cincy
Perine was claimed off waivers by the Bengals on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The 2017 fourth-round pick was waived by Miami over the weekend and will now make his way back to Cincinnati. Perine began the 2019 campaign with the Bengals but played only five offensive snaps in six games before being let go, and he eventually signed with the Dolphins. He's struggled to find his footing to this point in his career, and he has only 13 rushing attempts for 48 yards over the past two seasons.

Let go by Miami
The Dolphins waived Perine on Sunday.
Analysis: Miami's acquisition of Matt Breida from San Francisco in exchange for a fifth-round pick appears to have made Perine expendable. Across a six-game stint with the Bengals and one appearance with the Dolphins in 2019, Perine accumulated 16 yards on five carries while mostly contributing on special teams. He'll look to garner another depth role elsewhere in the league.

Small role in finale
Perine carried the ball five times for 16 yards during Week 17's divisional win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Perine made his debut with Miami during the regular-season finale. He also had a four-game stint in Cincinnati in 2019, during which he contributed on special teams. As an unrestricted free agent, the 2017 fourth-round pick's future with Miami is unclear.

Finds new home in Miami
Perine was signed Monday by the Dolphins off the Bengals' practice squad, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Perine hasn't made much impact as a 2017 fourth-round pick, despite opportunities during stints with Washington and Cincinnati. Overall, he's averaged 3.5 YPC on 183 career rushes, hauled in 25 of 28 targets for 187 yards and scored two TDs in 27 career games. In his new home, Perine will provide depth to a Dolphins backfield that may be without Myles Gaskin (ankle) during Sunday's season finale in New England.
