Heads to IR
The Vikings placed Johnson (knee) on injured reserve Monday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Johnson tore the ACL in his left knee during Saturday's preseason finale against Denver, and barring an injury settlement, will now miss the entire 2022 campaign. The 2019 seventh-round pick suffered the same injury last year, only in the other knee.

Tears ACL
Johnson sustained a torn ACL in his left knee during Saturday's preseason game at Denver, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: At the start of training camp last summer, Johnson tore an ACL in his right knee and missed the entire 2021 campaign. Now, he's suffered the same injury this year, only in the other knee. The fourth-year wide receiver now will miss back-to-back seasons due to injury.

Leaves with knee injury
Johnson left Saturday's preseason finale versus the Broncos early with a knee injury, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Johnson exited the contest in the second half, but the exact extent of his injury has yet to be determined. The wide receiver is now a question mark for Week 1 against the Packers on Sept. 11.

Three receptions Saturday
Johnson had three receptions on six targets for 29 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Johnson suffered a torn ACL in training camp last July and missed the entire 2021 season, but he's back to full speed this summer. He worked as the No. 3 receiver at times in 2020 before sliding down the depth chart late that season. Despite his return, he appears far behind in the competition for the No. 4 receiver role, and it's not clear if he'll win one of the final reserve spots at the position.

Returns to practice
Johnson (knee) was a full participant in Tuesday's OTA practice, Matthew Collier of SI.com reports.
Analysis: Johnson suffered a torn ACL in training camp last July and missed the entire 2021 season. He worked as the No. 3 receiver at times in 2020 before sliding down the depth chart late in that season. He'll be in the mix for the No. 4 receiver role in training camp this summer if he's in fact back to full strength.

Activated off COVID-19 list
Johnson (knee) was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Analysis: Johnson has cleared COVID protocols, but he remains on injured reserve. The 2019 seventh-round pick isn't expected to play this season after tearing his ACL during training camp.

Surfaces on COVID list
Johnson (knee) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune reports.

Lands on IR
Johnson (knee) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Eric Smith of Vikings.com reports.
Analysis: Johnson suffered a torn ACL on Friday and will miss the entire 2021 season, so this move is strictly procedural. He'll set his sights on returning in time for the 2022 campaign.

Suffers torn ACL
Johnson was diagnosed with a torn ACL on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old suffered the injury during Friday's practice and is slated to miss the entirety of the 2021 campaign. Johnson, who worked as Minnesota's No. 3 wideout as a rookie in 2019, was attempting to win back that job in training camp, but he'll instead spend the season rehabbing from the ACL tear.

Exits with leg injury
Johnson left Friday's practice with an apparent leg injury, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Johnson, a 2019 seventh-round pick, is hoping to win back the No. 3 role he occupied as a rookie. Slot specialist Chad Beebe took the job last year and remains with the Vikings, but he'll need to fend off Johnson, Dede Westbrook and rookie fifth-round pick Ihmir Smith-Marsette this summer. It's a situation where Johnson could win the No. 3 job or could miss out on the Week 1 roster.

Zero-target finale
Johnson didn't see a single target Week 17 and ended the 2020 campaign catching 14 of 19 targets for 189 yards across 16 games.
Analysis: In his second season with the Vikings, Johnson played a much quieter role and didn't see even half the targets (44) as last year. With Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson as the primary receivers and Chad Beebe passing him on the depth chart, the 2019 seventh-round pick wasn't able to have the same number of opportunities. Depending how Minnesota proceeds in the offseason -- especially as it pertains to Beebe, a restricted free agent -- Johnson may have even more competition for the No. 3 wide…read more

Registers 14th catch of 2020
Johnson hauled in his only target for 13 yards during Friday's 52-33 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: It may not have been an especially eventful Christmas Day outing from the 2019 seventh-round pick, but at least Johnson proved capable of snapping his three-game catch drought over his workload of 11 offensive snaps. Johnson possesses two notable fantasy outings on the year, producing a combined 10 catches for 130 yards between his season-best Week 1 and 12 performances. In 13 other 2020 outings, however, Johnson has totaled only four receptions for 59 yards.

Endures another zero-target outing
Johnson was not targeted over nine offensive snaps during Sunday's 33-27 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: Johnson enjoyed a seven-catch, 74-yard performance Week 12 against Carolina while Adam Thielen remained on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but he's since reverted to an obsolete offensive role with the receiving corps returned to full strength. Justin Jefferson's emergence has largely pushed Johnson out of the picture in the passing game, exemplified again Week 15 as the rookie's 11 targets combined with Thielen's three to constitute 87.5 percent of the Vikings' total WR targets.

Logs no receptions against Bucs
Johnson went without a target over 19 offensive snaps during Sunday's 26-14 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Ten different Vikings were targeted in the Week 14 defeat, but Johnson went without an offensive look for a second consecutive contest. He produced an eye-catching seven receptions for 74 yards Week 12 against the Panthers while Adam Thielen resided on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Otherwise, he has no outings exceeding 25 yards since posting three catches and 56 yards Week 1 against Green Bay.

No targets against Jaguars
Johnson didn't receive a target in the 27-24 overtime win against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Johnson played a season-high 58 snaps on offense in last week's win over the Panthers, when Adam Thielen was on the COVID-19 list. Thielen returned this week, however, and Johnson reverted to the No. 4 wideout role, playing just eight snaps and failing to receive a target for the fifth time this year. Chad Beebe appears to be the clear No. 3 behind Thielen and Justin Jefferson.

Thrives in Thielen's absence
Johnson secured all seven targets for 74 yards and caught a two-point conversion pass in the Vikings' 28-27 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: With Adam Thielen hitting the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier in the week, Johnson stepped seamlessly into the No. 2 role and ended up pacing the Vikings in receiving yardage. The second-year wideout also tied multiple teammates for the team lead in receptions, and his two-point conversion grab in the fourth quarter was critical in that it brought Minnesota to within a field goal. Gets start as No. 2 WR
Johnson will start as the No. 2 wide receiver Sunday against Carolina with Chad Beebe working as the No. 3 slot receiver while Adam Thielen remains on the COVID-19 list, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Johnson has just five receptions this season and has been outplayed by Beebe, who moved ahead of him for the No. 3 role when Thielen was healthy. However, it looks like Johnson will get increased playing time and opportunities against Carolina.

Rare reception Sunday
Johnson had one reception for nine yards in Sunday's loss to Dallas.
Analysis: It was his first reception since Week 5 and he played just four snaps on offense. Meanwhile, Chad Beebe played 17 snaps on offense despite not getting a target. Despite the catch, there isn't any change in Johnson's role as a deep reserve and fourth receiver. However, he could have a larger role this week if Adam Thielen misses time after landing on the COVID-19 list.

Targeted once on MNF
Johnson did not haul in his lone target during Monday night's 19-13 win against the Bears.
Analysis: Johnson has not recorded a reception since Week 5, though he did at least break his skid of three consecutive outings without a target Monday night. Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen continue to dominate the wide receiver workload, combining for 12 receptions, 178 yards and two touchdowns against Chicago, while Chad Beebe got involved with two catches and 16 yards of his own. No receptions on limited workload
Johnson was not targeted on any of his eight offensive snaps during Sunday's 34-20 win against the Lions.
Analysis: Johnson has been sparsely involved as Justin Jefferson continues to emerge as a Rookie of the Year candidate, collecting just one reception for 13 yards since Week 3. The 23-year-old receiver started Minnesota's first two games of the season while fielding a combined 75 offensive snaps, but he has compiled just 45 total snaps on that side of the ball over his past six appearances.

No targets in Week 8
Johnson wasn't targeted in Sunday's 28-22 win over Green Bay.

Targeted once in win over Texans
Johnson recorded no receptions on one target during Sunday's 31-23 win against the Texans.
Analysis: Johnson collected four receptions for 80 yards Weeks 1 and 2, but as rookie Justin Jefferson has come to the forefront with 278 yards and a touchdown the past two games, the Colorado State product has seen his offensive role shrink. Johnson was on the field for a combined 75 offensive snaps Weeks 1 and 2, but he has been granted just a total of 16 the past two weeks. Has minimal role Sunday
Johnson didn't have a pass thrown his way and played just five snaps on offense in Sunday's 31-30 loss to Tennessee.
Analysis: Justin Jefferson started at wide receiver opposite Adam Thielen and had a breakout game with 175 yards receiving. Johnson began the season as the starter opposite Thielen, but he has moved to a reserve role and may not get many targets if the top two wideouts stay healthy. Johnson has even fallen to the No. 4 WR role as Chad Beebe had 22 snaps on offense and was used as the slot receiver Sunday.

Just one reception
Johnson had one reception for 24 yards on three targets in Sunday's loss at Indianapolis.
Analysis: Johnson played 42 snaps on offense compared to Justin Jefferson's 29 snaps, but Jefferson had three receptions on a similar three targets. Minnesota's passing game couldn't get on track as Kirk Cousins struggled with a 15.9 NFL passer rating, so it's hard to read too much into Johnson's performance. Johnson still is ahead of Jefferson on the depth chart, but it seems only a matter of time before the 2020 first-round draft pick passes him for a more prominent role.

Three grabs in Week 1 loss
Johnson hauled in three of four targets for 56 yards in the Vikings' 43-34 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
Analysis: Johnson trailed both fellow wideout Adam Thielen and running back Alexander Mattison in receptions, but he made good use of his relatively few opportunities. The second-year wideout notably clawed his way to some relevance last season in an offense that often features a narrow distribution of targets, and with Stefon Diggs now in Buffalo, Johnson could improve on 2019's 31-294-3 line if he can continue hanging on to the second receiver job over rookie Justin Jefferson. Listed as No. 2 WR
Johnson is listed as the No. 2 wide receiver on Minnesota's initial unofficial depth chart, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Rookie Justin Jefferson primarily worked with the first-team offense during scrimmages in the slot with Johnson as the No. 2 receiver opposite Adam Thielen, so this listing isn't a surprise. Still, Jefferson could overtake Johnson quickly in the offense to become the No. 2 receiver. A larger issue may be how often the Vikings use a third receiver, as the team had limited use of three-receiver sets last season. However, that could change slightly under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.

Works as No. 2 WR in scrimmage
Johnson worked as the No. 2 receiver on the outside with the first-team offense in Friday's dress rehearsal scrimmage at U.S. Bank Stadium, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Johnson had three targets for 17 yards in the two quarters played in the scrimmage, according to Arif Hasani of The Athletic. Justin Jefferson worked with the first-team offense in the slot, and it's still a question of whether Johnson or Jefferson will start opposite Adam Thielen in two-receiver sets. Working ahead of rookie
Johnson has been working with the starting offense as the No. 2 receiver at training camp, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The difference between being the No. 2 or No. 3 receiver is particularly important in Minnesota, where TE Kyle Rudolph, TE Irv Smith and FB C.J. Ham combined for 1,759 offensive snaps last year. Development from Johnson and rookie first-round pick Justin Jefferson could inspire OC Gary Kubiak to use 11 personnel (three-wide) a bit more often this year, but the Vikings would likely still rank near the top of the league in usage of both 12 (two TEs) and 21 (two backs). Hauls in 31 passes
Johnson caught 31 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns and rushed once for six yards in 16 games this season.
Analysis: The rookie seventh-round pick ended up making six starts -- five while Adam Thielen was sidelined from Weeks 10 to 15 -- but he had only 11 catches for 89 yards and one touchdown in that stretch. Johnson currently sits No. 3 on the depth chart at wide receiver and overall it was a solid debut campaign given his draft position, but it seems likely the Vikings look for an upgrade this offseason behind Thielen and Stefon Diggs.

Brings in single catch
Johnson caught one of his two targets for a six-yard gain during Monday's 23-10 loss to Green Bay.
Analysis: Johnson hasn't caught multiple passes in a game since Week 11. The rookie continues to function as the No. 3 WR, with his 24 snaps Monday being 18 more than fellow receiver Alexander Hollins. The Vikings' frequent use of a second tight end over a third receiver, however, limits Johnson's production. The regular season ends Sunday against a Bears team against whom Johnson caught four passes for 35 yards in Week 4.

Suiting up Sunday
Johnson (quadriceps) is listed as active Sunday against the Chargers at L.A.
Analysis: Listed as limited on the Vikings' final two Week 15 practice reports due to a quad injury, Johnson's availability was in question for this contest. While he's available to the offense, the return of Adam Thielen (hamstring) from a four-game absence likely won't afford Johnson many targets, especially with his health compromised.

Questionable for Week 15
Johnson (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Johnson was added to Minnesota's injury report Thursday after the quad issue limited his participation in practice that day. The Vikings apparently weren't convinced he was fully healthy after evaluating him in Friday's session, so his Week 15 status will be shrouded in some uncertainty for now. Even if Johnson moves past the injury and is cleared to play Sunday, he may be headed for a downturn in targets with fellow wideout Adam Thielen (hamstring) slated to return from a five-game absence.

Added to injury report
Johnson was added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a quadriceps injury.
Analysis: The mid-week addition likely means he hurt his quad during practice, so we may need to wait until Friday to figure out if Johnson is in any real danger of missing Sunday's game against the Chargers. The Vikings hope it won't make much difference in terms of their Week 15 gameplan, as Johnson likely will see his snap count drastically reduced if Adam Thielen (hamstring) is finally ready to play.

Catches TD on only target
Johnson had one reception for a nine-yard touchdown on his lone target in Sunday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: Johnson started opposite Stefon Diggs with Adam Thielen (hamstring) sidelined again. He didn't get many balls thrown his way for a second consecutive week, but did help fantasy players with the touchdown. Despite increased playing time with Thielen out, Johnson has just four targets the past two games. His lack of receptions is troubling considering he's starting in Thielen's absence and had nine targets Week 11.

To retain large workload
Johnson is expected to retain a significant workload with Adam Thielen (hamstring) doubtful to play Sunday against the Lions, Kyle Ratke of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Since Thielen injured his hamstring Week 7 in Detroit, Johnson regularly has been the Vikings' No. 2 wide receiver behind Stefon Diggs. Earning between 56 and 83 percent of the offensive snaps over the last six games, Johnson hasn't done much with the increased snaps, reeling in 16 of 28 targets for 132 yards and two touchdowns. He'll look to make a splash Sunday versus a Detroit defense that has surrendered the fifth-most catches (165) to wide receivers this season.

Just one reception Monday
Johnson had one reception for one yard across three targets in Monday's 37-30 loss to Seattle.
Analysis: A week after leading the Vikings in targets while Adam Thielen (hamstring) was out, Johnson wasn't as big a factor in the passing game, despite starting opposite Stefon Diggs. The rookie could have a larger role Week 14 against Detroit if Thielen's injury keeps him sidelined for a fourth straight game.

Leads team in targets
Johnson reeled in five of nine targets for 35 yards during Sunday's 27-23 win over Denver.
Analysis: With Denver sliding coverage over to Stefon Diggs -- arguably not often enough -- Johnson was given plenty of one-on-one opportunities short during Sunday's game, though he was unable to get loose up the field like some of his teammates. The rookie seventh-round pick has outplayed his draft position, but he hasn't been much of a threat downfield and hasn't put together any big performances in place of Adam Thielen (hamstring). Starting again Sunday
Johnson is starting for Adam Thielen (hamstring) on Sunday against the Broncos.
Analysis: Although Johnson has received at least 71 percent of the offensive snaps in four consecutive games, he's managed to haul in just nine of 16 passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns during that stretch. Expect a similar workload for Johnson in Week 11, but he may find it difficult to produce against a Denver defense that has conceded the fifth-fewest TDs (five) and seventh-fewest YPT (7.4) to wideouts this season.

Just two receptions Sunday
Johnson started opposite Stefon Diggs at receiver and had two receptions for 25 yards on four targets in Sunday's win at Dallas.

Johnson's teammate Adam Thielen (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Dallas.
Analysis: With Thielen either inactive or suffering an in-game injury the past three weeks, Johnson has played 71, 74 and 83 percent of snaps, catching seven of 12 targets for 71 yards and two touchdowns. The target volume hasn't been encouraging, but he at least figures to see a lot of playing time Sunday night in Dallas.

Johnson had a four-yard touchdown reception on his lone catch on two targets in Sunday's 26-23 loss at Kansas City.
Analysis: The Vikings perplexingly utilized Laquon Treadwell in the passing game (five targets) after Adam Thielen aggravated a hamstring injury more than Johnson. However, Johnson salvaged his game with a touchdown catch. Johnson should still be seen as the No. 2 receiver if Thielen is out next week as he played 58 snaps on offense to Treadwell's 19 snaps.
