Fifth-year option declined
The Jaguars elected to decline Chaisson's fifth-year option on his rookie contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Chaisson will now enter a contract year in his fourth season with the Jaguars and will have a chance to cash in during free agency next offseason if he performs well. The 23-year-old appeared in only nine games with Jacksonville in 2022 due to a knee injury, but he was able to produce 10 tackles, including a sack, over 213 snaps between defense and special teams.

Back from IR
Jacksonville activated Chaisson (knee) from its injured reserve list Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at Tennessee, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: After missing the Jaguars' last seven games with a knee injury he sustained in Week 5 versus Houston, Chaisson appears poised to return in Week 14. The 2020 first-rounder figures to fill a rotational role on the edge for the remainder of the season.

Designated to return from IR
Jacksonville designated Chaisson (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Chaisson has been on IR since Oct. 10 due to a meniscus injury, but with the move, Jacksonville has opened a 21-day window for him to be added to the active roster. However, if the third-year linebacker is not activated within that period, he'll revert to IR for the remainder of the campaign.

Headed for IR
Chaisson sustained a meniscus injury during Sunday's 13-6 loss versus Houston and will be placed on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The timeline for Chaisson's return still isn't totally clear, but he'll have to miss at least the Jaguars' next four games as he recovers. Until Chaisson is ready to play again, De'Shaan Dixon could see some rotational reps behind Travon Walker and Josh Allen.

Exits Sunday
Chaisson (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Texans, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
Analysis: Chaisson missed last week's loss to the Eagles with an ankle issue and was listed as questionable for this Week 5 contest, though he appears to have picked up a separate knee injury during the first half. The third-year linebacker played only 27 defensive snaps over the first three games of the season, but his absence will leave Jacksonville short-handed with fellow outside linebackers Jordan Smith (knee) and De'Shaan Dixon (coach's decision) both out Sunday.

Will play Sunday
Chaisson is active for Sunday's game against the Texans.
Analysis: Chaisson was limited at each practice ahead of Week 5 due to an ankle injury and was listed as questionable. However, he'll return to action Sunday following a one-game absence. Through his first three appearances, the 2020 first-round pick played primarily on special teams, recording three tackles across 27 defensive snaps.

Out Week 4
The Jaguars have downgraded Chaisson (ankle) to out for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Demetrius Harvey of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Chaisson's absence will leave the team thin for depth at outside linebacker. De'Shaan Dixon will be the primary backup available behind Josh Allen and No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker.

Back from COVID list
Chaisson (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Analysis: Chaisson missed the final two games of the season after testing positive for the virus. The 2020 first-round pick had a disappointing season with 31 tackles (20 solo) and only one sack in 15 games. He'll enter his third season needing a significant improvement in order to live up to his draft position.

Shifts to COVID list
Jacksonville placed Chaisson on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday after he tested positive for the virus, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Chaisson played a season-high 53 percent of the defensive snaps Sunday versus the Jets, but he's now sidelined on the COVID list. Fellow outside linebackers Josh Allen (illness), Lerentee McCray (illness) and Jordan Smith (illness) are also following the NFL's COVID-19 protocols.

Primed for starting role
Chaisson (illness) registered a quarterback hit in 29 defensive snaps during Saturday's preseason loss to the Browns.
Analysis: The 2020 first-round pick missed June minicamp after testing positive for COVID-19, but he was ready for the start of training camp and is poised to start as an edge rusher for Jacksonville. Chaisson played in every game as a rookie last season but had a quiet campaign with 19 total tackles and one sack.

Absent from minicamp
Chaisson was not able to attend minicamp after testing positive for COVID-19, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Analysis: Chaisson is expected to return to his role as a starting linebacker for the Jags in 2021, but he'll need to pass through the league's COVID protocols before joining the rest of his teammates in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Set for starting role
Chaisson is listed as a starter for Sunday's game against the Texans, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
Analysis: Chaisson will make his first NFL start of his career Sunday, assuming the role for the inactive Josh Allen (knee). Chaisson has been decent through the first four games of his career, accumulating seven tackles (four solo) and one sack over that span.

Returns to practice
Chaisson (hamstring) is slated to participate in Thursday's practice, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Analysis: Chaisson was limited to side work earlier this month due to a hamstring issue, but it looks as though he's already managed to return to full health. The rookie first-round pick should see plenty of chances to handle key snaps for Jacksonville's pass rush early in his career, provided he can remain on the field.

Dealing with injury
Chaisson was forced to work out on the side during Wednesday's practice session due to a hamstring injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The good news for Chaisson and the team is that he's dealing with what's believed to be a minor injury, which isn't expected to force him to miss an extended period of time. Once fully healthy, the 20th overall pick in April's draft is expected to bolster the Jacksonville pass rush, potentially forming a dangerous pass-rushing duo with 2019 first-round pick Josh Allen.
